Q I have a Travertine shower and the cleaner I’m using removes the soap scum, but now the travertine looks dull and feels rough. Could the
cleaner I’m using damage the stone? BACK TO TOP
A Many household cleaners contain acids which help remove hard water deposits. Travertine can be damaged by cleaners that contain acids. Do not
clean any natural stone (Limestone, Marble, Onyx, Travertine) or any other calcite based stone with cleaners that contain acids including (but not limited to)
vinegar or cleaners with "lemon" or "lime" on the label or not specifically formulated for natural stone. For cleaners and soap film removers safe for use in

Q Will sealing the grout in my shower prevent mold and mildew from growing? BACK TO TOP
A A sealer reduces the grouts ability to absorb water which promotes faster drying but a sealer will not prevent mildew entirely. Keep the shower area as
dry as possible between showers and here’s a list of things to minimize mold and mildew in the shower:
• Wipe or squeegee shower walls after showering.
• Clean shower regularly and use mold & mildew remover when necessary.
• Hang damp towels and clothing to dry.
• Use mold and mildew resistant caulk and grout.
• Leave shower door or curtain open to increase air circulation in wet areas.
• Use ventilation fan to extract humidity and promote air circulation.
• Make repairs to cracked grout and failing caulk to avoid saturation to substrate.
Q Is there a product to remove hard water deposits from my shower door glass? BACK TO TOP
A Yes, a product called Glastec ® and it works great for removing water deposits on glass, windows, windshields, showers, and other non-painted hard
surfaces. The products listed above can be purchased from Ideal Mirror & Glass.
Q How long do I wait to use my shower after re-grouting? BACK TO TOP
It depends on the type of grout used. Normally grout requires 48 hours to dry before a penetrating sealer can be applied. After sealing, allow an additional
24 hours for the sealer to cure. If you chose any special additives for the grout, (for repelling dirt and resisting stains) the drying period could be as long as
10 days.
Q Can you grout over my existing grout? BACK TO TOP
Going over the existing grout is referred to as “skim coating”. Beware of companies that smear new grout over the top of existing grout (sometimes over
mold and mildew too). If the surface of the tile and grout is not properly cleaned and prepared the new grout will most likely fail.
Q How long does it take to re-grout a shower? BACK TO TOP
A It depends on the damage and the size and type of shower. Usually, to properly clean, re-grout and caulk a shower/tub surround requires one or two
days.
Q My shower has caulk that closely matches the grout color. Can you replace the caulk with a similar product? BACK TO TOP
A Yes, sanded and un-sanded caulks are available to closely match existing grout colors and most are moisture and mildew resistant.
